Grants that can lower a South Carolina CDL price
Grants are shown with what they cover, what they do not cover, and the source. A grant that covers tuition does not automatically cover every fee, exam, or medical cost. Check the school's financial aid office before you rely on any figure below.

SC WINS — South Carolina Workforce and Industry Needs Scholarship
| Item | What the source says |
|---|---|
| Amount | Up to $5,000 per academic year, after all other federal and state scholarships or grants are applied. Source: SC Technical College System, SC WINS page. |
| Covers | Remaining tuition, fees, and required course-related expenses after other aid. Source: SC Technical College System. |
| Does not guarantee | Meeting the criteria does not guarantee an award. Funding is limited and eligibility is reviewed each semester. Source: Aiken Technical College SC WINS page. |
| Who qualifies | South Carolina resident, enrolled in an eligible program at a SC technical college, and one of: employed, or takes a financial literacy course offered by the college, or completes 100 hours of voluntary time with a nonprofit or public service organization. Credit-seeking students must maintain a 2.0 GPA each academic year. Source: SC Technical College System and SC Code § 59-150-365. |
| CDL relevance | Commercial Truck Driving is listed as an eligible program on at least one technical college SC WINS page (Aiken Technical College). Eligibility is by program at each college — confirm with the specific school, do not assume every CDL program qualifies. |
| Not covered, in some college statements | At least one college states course materials, text, uniforms, and tools are not covered by SC WINS. Other colleges describe coverage as tuition, fees, and course-related expenses. The difference matters — ask the school which line items it applies SC WINS to for its CDL program. |

WIOA / SC Works
WIOA funding is administered through SC Works / local workforce boards, and eligibility and amounts are decided case by case. This site does not publish a WIOA dollar amount for CDL, because no single published amount covers every student. What is verified: at least one Charleston provider states it is approved by SC Works and works with WIOA offices (TransTech Charleston, provider page), and Midlands Technical College's CDL program appears on SC Path with a published program cost (see the comparison table). Ask the local SC Works office and the school whether that school's CDL program is WIOA-eligible for you.
VA / GI Bill — per-program approval required
For non-college-degree programs, VA lists truck driving explicitly. For 1 Aug 2026 to 31 Jul 2027, the Post-9/11 GI Bill cap for such programs at the 100% tier is $30,908.34 in net tuition and mandatory fees, plus up to $1,000 per academic year for books and supplies, and a Monthly Housing Allowance if more than half-time and not on active duty. Lower tiers pay the cap multiplied by the tier percentage. A program must be VA-approved — GI Bill acceptance is per program, not blanket for a school. Correction: HOPE Career Grant is Georgia, not South Carolina
Earlier research in this project cited a HOPE Career Grant figure for CDL. Re-checking in this build found HOPE Career Grant is a Georgia program for Georgia technical colleges, not a South Carolina funding route. It is not listed here as an SC grant. Do not use a Georgia HOPE figure to calculate an SC net price. The same applies to Next NC, which is a North Carolina program — not an SC CDL funding route on this page.
